Time & Energy Morning Brief™️
Each weekday morning, I record a short audio reflection on leadership, performance, relationships, values, and what it means to show up well for the people and things that matter most.
It's five intentional minutes before the world starts asking things of you.

We start the morning with a simple reset: the hardest choice is often what to ignore, not what to do. I share a small distraction spiral and a question that helps me protect my best energy for what matters most.
• why constant responsiveness feels impressive but drains focus
• how distractions show up as “harmless” detours and steal energy
• the 30-minute question that clarifies priorities fast
• practical examples for protecting deep work and family time
• choosing values over the loudest demand

Good morning, everyone. Here's the Time and Energy Morning Brief for Friday, July 17, 2026. Five intentional minutes before the world starts asking things of us. There are some days when the biggest decision you'll make isn't what to do. It's what to ignore. We don't talk about that very often. We celebrate people who can juggle a hundred priorities. We admire people who seem to respond to every email, answer every text,
The Morning Brief Begins
SPEAKER_00attend every meeting, and still somehow keep all the plates spinning. But if we're honest, most of us don't need another lesson in doing more. We need permission to stop treating every request
The Hard Choice To Ignore
SPEAKER_00like it's equally important. I was reminded of that this week. A notification popped up while I was working on something that really mattered, nothing urgent, nothing life-changing, just enough to tempt me. I told myself it would only take a minute. Twenty minutes later, I found myself wondering how I'd ended up somewhere I never intended to go. Maybe you've had moments like that, not just with your phone, with your attention. Because attention
A Notification Steals Your Focus
SPEAKER_00drifts toward whatever is loudest, and what is loud isn't always what matters. You've heard it before. Time is fixed, energy is renewable, but only when it's aligned. Alignment isn't just about saying yes to the right things, it's also about saying no to the distractions that quietly steal the energy you were saving for something better. That's harder than it
Choosing What Deserves Your Best
SPEAKER_00sounds. Because distractions rarely introduce themselves as distractions. They usually arrive dressed as opportunities or obligations or harmless little detours, and one by one, they begin borrowing energy from the moments that deserve it most. I've started asking myself a different question whenever I feel pulled in ten directions, not what should I do next, but what deserves the next thirty minutes of my best attention? That question changes things because it reminds me that my best energy is limited. If I spend it everywhere, I won't have it where it matters most. Maybe today that place is a conversation you've been putting off, maybe it's focused work you've been postponing because the smaller tasks feel easier. Maybe it's dinner with your family tonight and you don't want to arrive emotionally exhausted from giving your best to everything else. Whatever it is, protect it. Guard it a little more carefully than you normally would. Because the quality of your life is shaped less by the number of things you touch, and more by the handful of things that receive the very best of you. So here's one thing to think about today. What deserves your best attention before the day gets away from you? Before you move on to your next task, pause for just a moment and choose it intentionally. Don't let the loudest thing decide. Let your values decide. I hope somewhere today you experience the quiet
