Time Is Free But Energy Has A Price
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We share a five-minute reset for anyone who feels like their calendar is running their life instead of reflecting their values. We make the case that burnout often starts with losing your why, then offer a simple question to protect your best energy for what matters most.
• noticing when the schedule becomes a list of reactions
• naming the difference between doing too much and forgetting why
• asking what deserves our energy, not just our time
• separating urgency from importance and building a pause
• using values as tools for better decisions
• scanning the calendar to protect one high-energy moment

Morning Brief And Intention
SPEAKER_00Good morning. Here's the time and energy morning brief for Thursday, July 16th, 2026. Five intentional minutes before the world starts asking things of us.
When The Calendar Runs You
SPEAKER_00I wonder if you've ever noticed how quickly a calendar can start making decisions for you. Not because the meetings are wrong, not because the work isn't important, but because somewhere along the way, your schedule quietly became a list of reactions instead of a reflection of your intentions. I've had days where I looked back at everything I accomplished and still felt like I'd somehow missed the point. The emails were answered, the calls were made, the boxes were checked, and yet I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd spent the entire day serving everyone else's priorities while neglecting my own. Maybe you felt that too.
Burnout Starts With Forgetting Why
SPEAKER_00I don't think burnout always begins with doing too much. Sometimes it begins with forgetting why we're doing any of it. That's an important distinction, because if the problem is simply having too much on your plate, the solution is better time management. But if the problem is losing sight of what actually matters, no planner in the world can solve that.
Time Versus Energy
SPEAKER_00I've become more convinced that one of the most valuable questions we can ask ourselves isn't what needs my time today? It's what deserves my energy. Those aren't the same question. Time is democratic. Everyone gets 24 hours. Energy is selective. It follows what we choose to notice. It responds to what we believe matters. And over time, it reveals what we're actually prioritizing, regardless of what we say our priorities are.
Urgency Is Loud Importance Is Quiet
SPEAKER_00One of the easiest traps to fall into is assuming that urgency and importance are close friends. They're not. Urgency has a way of introducing itself loudly. Importance usually waits quietly. Urgency wants an answer right now. Importance is patient enough to let you miss it. That's why the people who lead well, and whether they're leading a company, a family, or simply themselves, develop the habit of pausing before they react. Not because they're slow, because they're intentional. They've learned that every yes carries the hidden weight of a hundred unspoken no's. Every meeting is time, every decision is energy. Every commitment shapes the person
Values As Decision Tools
SPEAKER_00they're becoming. I think that's one of the reasons values matter so much. Values aren't inspirational words hanging on a wall. They're decision-making tools. They help us recognize what deserves our best before the world decides for us. Without them, everything feels equally important. And when everything feels important, everything eventually becomes exhausting.
Protect Your Best Energy Today
SPEAKER_00So here's something to try before the day really gets moving. Look at your calendar, not to see what's on it. Look at it with a different question. Where today will your best energy be required? Maybe it's a difficult conversation. Maybe it's a client meeting. Maybe it's dinner with your family after a long day. Maybe it's 15 quiet minutes you've intentionally protected for thinking instead of reacting. Wherever that moment is, don't accidentally spend your best energy before you get there. Protect it. Because being busy isn't the goal. Being present when it matters is. That's what intentional living really looks like. Not squeezing more into the day, but bringing more of yourself to the moments that matter most. I hope today gives you at least one opportunity to do exactly that. And when it comes, I hope your best is
